A spring artwork

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

My new illustration of a Spring day in Little Mo’s garden. I’ve had this drawing for some time in my sketch book…but never got around to colouring it.

When I start a sketch on the drawing board, I like to ink in alot of details and don’t really think about the colouring process. It’s only after I’ve finished inking then I realise all the details that I have to colour in…and it makes me go a little berserk sometimes! Wouldn’t you feel the same if you see this sketch above?

But I usually calm down once I apply the first colours. I usually colour the leaves first. Because it helps me decide the overall colour for the artwork. So this is my new spring illustration, and everything is fresh and green.

Available in print and a greeting card set in my shop.

Happy Spring day everyone!

My friend, Michelle from Koot makes the sweetest vintage gift tags with her daughters. I used some for packaging my orders the other day.

A kiss for you

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

You know in primary school if you were seen talking with a boy, all the kids will suddenly sing ‘Helena and Richard sitting under a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G…’

Well I decided to do my own kissing couple, two love birds, completely smitten by each other:) I really had fun colouring these gift tags and I couldn’t help giggling like a kid.

Enjoy using them for your christmas presents this holiday season! They come sealed in a pack here with matching Christmas wreaths and Christmas stockings. Oh joy!

On the topic about birds, I bought this cute owl brooch made by Lauren from Osier. Isn’t he sweet?

Custom postcard illustration for kirsten

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Busy week!

kirsten postcards

I just finished a custom postcard illustration for Kirsten from Paper by Forget Me Not. Kirsten is a stationery maker like myself and she also uses recyclable materials. Which is cool for me…and you! Check out her stationery products, my favourite item is the tutti fruitti stationery set.

Kirsten wanted something fun to include in her packages. So I designed some postcards for her. She can fold these into note cards and write her thank you messages in them. You can see more pictures here.

kirsten illustration

I have drawn Kirsten sitting amongst the blue forget me nots with one of her pink journals. The image came straight to me at the drawing board because personally, I would love to sit under a tree surrounded by flowers! Kirsten has curly brown hair in real life and you can see her photo in her madeit interview. She’s really beautiful, and I just hope that my drawing shows it off!

2 more weeks to go for Sunday Best by Unwrapped.

Sunday Best

Sunday 6 September 2009
11am – 4pm
Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts
(PICA)
Perth Cultural Centre, James Street, Northbridge

Little Mo and Friends is thrilled to be a part of the great line up of designers selling at the 2009 Perth Fashion Festival. There will be new mo products too! Are you excited?

When I think of Sunday Best, I remember my grandmother nagging me to dress my best for Sunday school. And although I was quite a tom boy then and wore mostly jeans and tee I did try! I made sure I scrubbed my face clean and combed my hair..hehe!

So for good times, I will make an effort to dress up my Little Mo stall for Sunday Best and make it twice the fun and colour! Yahhh! Come down and visit me, check out my new mo stationery and all the other cool stalls and their handmade wares!

Thanks for supporting handmade art!

Music Feedback documentary

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Apart from Little Mo and Friends, I also work as a freelance producer on documentaries and short films. This is a Music feedback anti-stigma campaign video that we directed and produced for the West Australian Department of Health.

It features interviews by Roly Skender, Gyroscope, Justin from End of Fashion, Birds of Tokyo, Abbe May, The Kill Devil Hills and The Yabu Band.

Watch part 2, 3, and 4 here to see the rest of the band interviews.

Personally, I enjoyed working on this project because we were using a unique platform like music and documentary to reach out to young people who could be suffering from mental health issues (and who probably look up to some of these musicans for inspiration). The objective of this campaign was to promote mental health and challenge the prejudice and stereotypes attached to mental illness.

Let us know your thoughts! Scroll down the video page here for more.

In case you didn’t know you can get free cd/dvds of some great West Australian musicians just by filling out this form here. It’s free and the music is great, I listen to the cd while I draw!

We had a fun time walking all 5 levels of the car park and witnessing all the lovely wall art painted by a whole heap of talented Perth artists. We should have more public spaces adorned with great art. Just a thought.
