Work in progress: Niniji’s book

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Hello. I am still here…just working on a few collaborations lately!

One of them is the Moleskine sketchbook exchange. I received Niniji’s book in the mail and her book has a Luna Sea theme to it. She also included a soundtrack with her book, played by the Japanese Rock Band called Luna Sea.

I put on the soundtrack today and started sketching my idea of a mysterious Luna Sea!

So yes….a smiling octopus, floating cherry blossoms, and very strange seaweed plants! I’ll share more pictures when I’ve coloured in this crazy image!

I’ve been admiring the works of Indigenous artist Jeannie Mills Pwerl for some time, especially her Anaty collection or also known as the Desert Yam.

I love Jeannie’s bold and colourful strokes of the Bush Yam. Every artwork is a different variation of colours, from earthy tones to pink and purple hues. It was love at first sight when I saw this piece.

We had the canvas stretched before we decided to hang it up by the dining corner.

I find that the problem with me marrying a tall husband (or him marrying a short Asian wife) is that we can never agree on the perfect height to hang anything. What may be the perfect height for him, always seems so high up for me. This problem is of course bugging me slightly…so if anyone has any tips and advice on how to hang a picture up at a “reasonable” height, please let me know.

But still…the painting is very sweet, yes? I would like to hang a cuckoo clock somewhere near the painting and bookcase. I hope we can find one during our Euro trip. I also hope that Rich will hang it up for me a tad lower this time!

Pip and Peanut

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

Thank you to everyone who left comments on my owl post I loved all your names and I wished I had drawn a parliament of owls so that I could use all of your suggestions! Well maybe in Little Mo’s world there is a parliament of owls nearby!

Thanks to Michelle who came up with the name ‘Peanut’, for the little one. I fell in love with the name as soon as I saw it. That was pretty easy for me!

The older owl was a little hard for me to decide. I liked Jaymii’s suggestion of ‘Otus’ and Tegan’s suggestion of ‘Ninox’. And I also liked the name ‘Pip’, because ‘Pip and Peanut’ has a nice ring to it! So there you go, my owls have been named! Please say hi to Pip and Peanut! The newest addition to Little Mo’s family!

Jaymii and Tegan, I’d still like to give you one of my owl prints…let’s just say you girls were runner ups :) I’ll be emailing all three of you for your addresses.

I hope you have a cute spot to hang your owl print! Thanks so much!

Friday, March 18th, 2011

I’ll be stocking my shop this weekend with lots of fun and colourful goodies. Just in time for some Easter shopping!

First to be added into my shop, are my cute animal bookplates. It was my first time colouring a star-filled night so I’m really happy at how the colours have turned out!

I’ve designed some bookplates for Easter! I hope you like them! I’m trying to make a few boyish ones for the little boys out there!

I think bookplates or book stickers make great companion gifts with books! While growing up, I was given books for birthdays and Christmas (some of my favourite reads were The Enchanted Wood series, The Famous Five and The Circus series), and sometimes tucked inside my books were little book stickers for me to stick on! Such a treat!

These cuties are off to the printers, so check my shop next week if you want to pick up a pack!

A new art print from me this week. Do you like it? I haven’t decided on a name for my owl friends…but maybe you can help me!

Leave as many suggestions as you like and I’ll pick a favourite name and send you this hoot friendly art print. It will come signed and wrapped up prettily:)

A bit of drawer’s block this morning. I found myself staring at the screen for a good hour, trying to decide what I could do with my bunny doodles. Also, it’s been so hot these couple of weeks that I find my energy level dipping really low.

After putting on some music, I managed to keep my cool together and coloured one of the bunnies…and then worked on a new sketch. I figured I would do a few ‘boyish’ animal designs this year. I think this owl and baby owl reading a book might make a cute art print for a boy’s room or a cute addition to my bookplate collection. What do you think?

I’ll share pictures once I’m finished with my little owl friends!

Currently on my playlist today is the fabulous Apricot Rail.

A year ago, my friend Emma and some drawing buddies started a Moleskine Sketchbook Exchange (or attempted to), but everyone was so busy that we had to postpone it. I don’t think any of our moleskines got to experience its first travels. Though I’ve heard recently that the project is now back on track!

Yesterday I took out my moly book and coloured in my year old doodles.

journal3

This is the sweet journal I bought from Montage Collective. A handmade denim journal and slip cover by Libby from iheartcharlie. It’s so cute!! I think I might have to christian it with a new doodle.

journal1

Besides making my Little Mo journals, I like collecting from other journal makers too. When I choose a journal for keeps, I like them to open up easily so that I don’t have to push on the spine when I draw. I also like my journals small and compact so that I can slip it into my bag. I like drawing on recycled paper or on found paper like Sharilyn’s pocket books.

I find that I tend to gravitate towards handmade journals because I can see that a lot of love and care goes into making them and knowing this, inspires me to fill the pages up!

journal2

I’m always on the lookout for new journals to add to my collection, if you have a favourite journal maker, do suggest one to me!
