Good morning

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I know my mum is reading this because she called me yesterday to let me know she had stumbled upon my blog. And that she was going to read it religiously from now on. So hi mum, just letting you know that the weather here is good, crisp autumn my favourite season. I’m sitting in the kitchen in a bathrobe eating breakfast, strawberry jam on toast and green tea.

Good golly

I love this mug. It says ‘Good golly, it’s Robertson’s time!’ I have no idea what it means. Anyone care to explain? But this mug is super cute, I love golliwogs, reminds me of my favourite book, ‘The three golliwogs’.

Does anyone eat their toast in triangular slices or is it just me?

Random things I find pleasure in

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Running through the sprinklers on a late summer’s day.
Late night chat on the bed in pjs.
Old vintage books and helvetica fonts.
A trip to the post office.
Walking past the bakery. Bread ogling.
Freshly squeezed orange juice.
Falling leaves in the garden.
Back rubs.
Stirring marshmallows in hot chocolate until they go soft.
Morning hellos.
I love yous in sunset.

I think life has been pretty good lately. Like the little things you know?

We have a faerie in our garden

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Fiance and I, we have this habit of making little things for each other like mix tapes, handmade cards, comic strips..lunchbox letters…or anything for laughters. Recently we celebrated our 6 years anniversary so I thought I’d give him a unique gift you know.

So I asked the lovely Linz from FaerieMajikk to make me a custom artwork. I had seen her fantasy and erotica work before and thought they were really unique. So I said to her, ‘just make me sexy…I think the boy will love it.’ And I gave her the freedom to draw whatever she wanted.

surprise!

The custom piece turned out to be a huge surprise for the both of us. When it arrived, we were giggling like school kids!! The boy took forever to open the package (either he was trying to savour the moment or Linz had it packaged so thoroughly…I think I heard the boy saying it was like opening one russian doll after another!) But lo and behold, the piece was so stunning in real life!

nature faerie

Because of my love for nature, Linz drew me in a very cute number amongst all the lovely trees! (May have to ask Franz to design an outfit like that for me too!) But we absolutely loved it! Everything about the artwork was truly unique and lovely. We have our very own helena faerie!

And that’s the beauty of art! Every artist has his or her own style. We could be drawing different themes, different styles, different mediums! I love that about art, I love observing and collecting art and I love supporting other independent artists. Linz, thank you so much…we’re so happy to have a piece of your work at our place!

If you’d like to have your very own custom fantasy artwork, visit Linz’s shop and get in touch with her!

Sugar and spice are sweet, and so are paper dolls too

Little Mo and Friends paper doll

When I was young I had fond memories of playing paper dolls with my mum. We spent hours playing with paper dolls, no larger than the palm of our hands. Finding cute outfits and accessories to fit onto our dolls was the best part!

So 27 years on, I am still pretty much obsessed with my paper doll memories. Last weekend I illustrated a set of outfits for Little Mo and created a Spring Love collection.

It’s times like this when you really wish for a little girl to play paper dolls with! Playing alone, isn’t as much fun as it used to be when I was a kid! And I doubt my fiance would want to sit around playing paper dolls all day!

Do you have someone sweet you can play paper dolls with?

Victorian Bushfire appeal

If you haven’t already heard on the news, lots of lives and homes (and towns) have been lost in the Victorian Bushfire last weekend.

While we can’t replace the lives that have been lost in this tragic accident, we can help to donate some much needed funds to the Australian Red Cross / Victorian Bushfire Appeal. This will go a long way into helping the victims rebuild their homes, their towns and their lives again.

The wonderful members of the Dust Team have collectively organised and set up the OzBushfireAppeal shop.

The shop sells a variety of gifts, donated by the many talented and generous Etsians. So pick a handmade gift today for a very good cause!

Alternatively you can also donate directly to the Australian Red Cross

Pink shoes

I adore my new pink shoes. Not too sure about the blue socks combo. For under $6, they were the last pair and in my size. Bargain I tell ya.

Smiley sky

One night in the backyard, I found a smiley face in the sky! So I made a wish and I also made a list of my new year resolutions:

To live a healthier and greener life.
To draw more, without any fear.
To give.
To love.
To forgive and forget.
To be open to change.
To expand Little Mo and Friends.
To have fun and enjoy.
To draw a children’s book.

Happy new year. May all your dreams come true this year! Xxxxx

Hello from the woods

Welcome to the journal of Little Mo and Friends.

My name is Helena, I am a hopeless writer but hopefully a better illustrator. This journal will have random ramblings from the artist, pictures of nature and some work in progress from the little studio of Little Mo and Friends.

Little Mo and Friends is an Eco-Friendly stationery and gift shop, created because of my love for old fashion snail mail, swap packages, pen-pal friends and anything related with mailboxes and little gifts!

I hope you will enjoy reading about my art and my work in progress. Please say hi, I would love to meet new friends! Thanks so much for visiting! xxxx
