My Little Mo Glass Brooches!

mo_brooch

Today I have been busy making glass brooches for the Montage shop. Only 6 days till we open our doors to the public!

These glass brooches are my favourite things to make because I love the shape of the glass domes, it reminds me of a mini snow globe. Once I took Rich to Snow World in Malaysia, it’s a giant cool room with lots of ice and fake snowflakes blowing. It was kind of like being in a snow globe and we even did some tube sledding! But it was exhausting carrying the heavy tubes up the icy slope so I made Rich carry mine:) Oh fun times.

Display sketches…

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

I thought I might sketch out a few display ideas, which helps me visualise how I’m going to display my products and also helps me remember the things I need to bring for our Pop-Up shop.

I’m also sharing a window display with Tall Rabbit, Anna Hadwin and inukdesigns and I think all of our products match very well together.

I was inspired by Nicole’s animal cushions and Anna’s crochet critters to draw a garden theme for our window display. Perhaps we could hang Little Mo Garden Postcards across the window and stick cut-out grass and flowers from coloured paper? It would be like school all over again…cutting and sticking things up:)

I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas so that I can share with the girls!

Getting ready to Pop-Up…

So here’s that project I’ve been working on…

I’ve joined a fabulous team of WA designers who call themselves Montage Collective and…we’re opening a Pop-Up Shop in the city!

I’m really excited to be part of this creative project, so thanks for having me girls!

You may have read about their adventures when they opened two successful Pop-Up shops earlier this year. And now with their third Pop-Up shop opening soon, it’s just great to see the wonderful support they’ve had from the local community and the netizens.

During the weekend, we tented up the ceiling with some muslin fabric sewn by one of the girls! Then the team dusted and cleaned the shop before all the furniture arrived. As you can see, it’s going to be a hectic and crazy week till the shop opens its doors on 18th August!

If you’re in town, do pop in to say hello!! I’ll definitely be there playing shop girl. And you’ll get to see the Little Mo goodies that I’ve been working on!

I will post some shop pics and my works in progress soon but in the mean time, SAVE THE DATE:

Raining and creating…

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Wow, we’ve had a week of stormy weather! I think rainy days like these are definitely the best days to stay indoors and craft. I’ve definitely been busy creating, what about you?

I’ve also been working on my Little Mo stock and there’s a reason to why I’m stocking up like a mad woman. I’m working on an exciting project with some talented Western Australia designers! I promise to update with more details when things are finalised!

Another exciting news that I know I can share:)

While ironing my Little Mo bags, I suddenly realised that I only have 7 bags left from the 200 bags that I got printed a year ago! Wow, I can’t believe I’ve nearly sold them all at the markets and at my shop! I know it’s not a large number of sales but I’m ecstatic to know that there’s nearly 200 customers wearing a Little Mo bag around the world!

Thought I might share two of my favourite photos of my customers wearing a Little Mo bag. Are you one of them? Send me a picture too! Or grab one of the last remaining 7 bags in my shop as I won’t be printing any more runs once they sell out. Thanks for your support! xoxo

Custom Octopus for Lexa

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Lexa_octopus

As promised, I have one last custom portrait to share with you!

Thanks to Lexa, this was a fun one to draw! Lexa loves her octopuses and wanted me to draw her a custom piece in Little Mo style. She sent some samples of her favourite colour swatches; a mix of pink, mauve, burgundy and green tones. She also told me how much she loves oriental flower motifs.

This is my version of Lexa’s octopus surrounded by magical flowers. I’d like to think that such a magical place exists underwater! A bed of flowers, a swimming mouse, floating seaplants and a strange small eyed octopus. Thanks so much Lexa! I hope you find a good spot to hang up your art print!

Shop update

Friday, March 18th, 2011

I’ll be stocking my shop this weekend with lots of fun and colourful goodies. Just in time for some Easter shopping!

First to be added into my shop, are my cute animal bookplates. It was my first time colouring a star-filled night so I’m really happy at how the colours have turned out!

There are 6 fun stickers in each pack; Starry Owl and Rabbit Hugger. Have fun sticking them, and let me know your feedback!

I’ve designed some bookplates for Easter! I hope you like them! I’m trying to make a few boyish ones for the little boys out there!

bookplates_bunny_owl

I think bookplates or book stickers make great companion gifts with books! While growing up, I was given books for birthdays and Christmas (some of my favourite reads were The Enchanted Wood series, The Famous Five and The Circus series), and sometimes tucked inside my books were little book stickers for me to stick on! Such a treat!

These cuties are off to the printers, so check my shop next week if you want to pick up a pack!

Mr owl in the starry night

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

A new art print from me this week. Do you like it? I haven’t decided on a name for my owl friends…but maybe you can help me!

Leave as many suggestions as you like and I’ll pick a favourite name and send you this hoot friendly art print. It will come signed and wrapped up prettily:)

Hoot hoot

Monday, February 28th, 2011

A bit of drawer’s block this morning. I found myself staring at the screen for a good hour, trying to decide what I could do with my bunny doodles. Also, it’s been so hot these couple of weeks that I find my energy level dipping really low.

After putting on some music, I managed to keep my cool together and coloured one of the bunnies…and then worked on a new sketch. I figured I would do a few ‘boyish’ animal designs this year. I think this owl and baby owl reading a book might make a cute art print for a boy’s room or a cute addition to my bookplate collection. What do you think?

I’ll share pictures once I’m finished with my little owl friends!

Currently on my playlist today is the fabulous Apricot Rail.

I.M Magazine feature

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Last year I.M magazine featured me on their July issue. It was a really awesome feature and so nicely put together. I couldn’t be happier. I love that the cover of the magazine kept with the theme of my website and logo.

At first I was a bit embarrassed to blog about my feature because I’m used to seeing snippets of Little Mo and Friends, not pages of write ups and illustrations. It was my first time having such a big feature story. I only told Richard and a couple of friends. I don’t think my parents even knew about the write up!

What made me hesitant to show the story off was that I didn’t want to come across sounding as if I was a very successful illustrator. I feel that I’m far from hitting the ‘big time’ and I know that I still have lots to learn and grow with my business.

Now that a few months have passed, I think I at least owe this feature story to my mum and family, and those of you who have followed my journey and blog faithfully. I realise that I should try to be more open and brave, which includes telling people about my handmade business and my drawings. I should learn to be proud of my achievements too and promote my drawings as much as I can, especially if I want to see an increase in my business sales this year:) !

IM_blog6

So anyway…I love this write up (I’m proud to say so myself) and I’ll even forgive the team for including a large photo of me.

You can read the full interview here. Or check out more photos on my facebook album. Thanks so much for your support and staying by Little Mo’s side! I can’t wait to see what my third year of business will bring!
