Green therapy

September 29th, 2010

Adding a bit of green colour in the house!

teacup-succulent

My little teacup succulent (a dwarf aloe vera) and my peperomia angulata plant.

I can’t wait till my plants grows bigger so that I can draw their pretty leaves for my new designs. I love drawing foliage…pretty obvious huh:)

If you thought my last portrait was detailed…this one takes the cake. This portrait turned me into a hermit crab for a few days! I stayed mostly in my room finishing this portrait up and rarely stepped out (except to eat..like this bunny).

This is a custom extra large portrait for Philip and his partner Mark. Philip wanted a unique gift for their coming anniversary so he decided to have a custom portrait done in Little Mo style!

phil1

Philip and Mark loves travelling and of all the photos that he sent to me, I loved this boat one the best. It was taken on their adventure trips in Switzerland. I hope that my drawing captures their love for exciting adventures and the outdoor! I also added in a few of Little Mo’s friends for a bit of humour!

I’ve known Philip since college days and he’s one of my dearest friend who has always been supportive of my art! Thanks so much for having me draw you a custom portrait! I can’t wait to see this framed up! Happy anniversary! xoxo

pixie-cut

Pixie cut. This one is shorter than the last one. Maybe I’ll call this Pixie Version 2.0.

Lucky me (or sometimes unfortunate) my hair tends to grow really fast. I’m not sure why…it just does.

Catching up on mail

September 16th, 2010

Took a break today and wrote to a lovely friend. I am using my Tutti Fruitti writing set from Kirsten’s shop and these cute wood grain envelopes from Malea’s shop. Aren’t they sweet?

Okonomiyaki anyone?

September 15th, 2010

I made Okonomiyaki for dinner. It’s a Japanese savoury pancake, filled with generous amounts of sliced cabbage and a variety of toppings.

okonomiyaki

The best thing about Okonomiyaki is you can add any kind of toppings into the batter and it will still taste delicious. I normally use leftovers like pieces of chicken, pork or mushrooms.

These are the essential ingredients to make a flavoursome Okonomiyaki! The rest is anything from your pantry!
okonomiyaki2

(Serves 2)
Batter:
1 cup flour
3/4 cup Dashi stock (if you can’t find the stock, just use fish stock or alternatively, water and a pinch of salt)
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
A good handful of thinly sliced cabbage

Toppings:
ANYTHING (shrimps, chicken, pork, squid, octopus mushrooms, onion, chives or bacon). All chopped up.

Sauce:
Okonomiyaki sauce
Kewpie Mayonnaise
Bonito flakes

- Add flour, egg, baking powder and stock into a bowl. Whisk until smooth.
- Add in sliced cabbage into the batter and mix well. Put aside.
- On a hot frying pan, add oil and fry your toppings. I like to use sesame oil for this recipe because it gives a nice aroma and seasoning.
- Once your toppings are close to being cooked, gather it nicely in a flat circle and pour your batter onto it. It should look like a chunky flat pancake.
- Leave to cook for 5 minutes or more. Once the dough is cooked, use two spatulas to flip the pancake over and let the other side cook for 5-10 minutes. Just like a pancake! You can also cut your pancake in half so that it’s easier to flip them.
- Serve on a plate, add generous amounts of Okonomiyaki sauce and Kewpie mayonnaise. Sprinkle with Bonito flakes. Enjoy!

Unwrapped Spring 2010

September 14th, 2010

Hello, we’re back from Unwrapped.

unwrapped_2010blog3

It was nice to be outdoors. We had a lovely Spring weather and a nice view of the city from our stall.

I wasn’t sure which coloured cloth to use for my tablecloth and in the end decided to go with green. After all it’s Spring time now!

As you can see, I’ve also had my hair cut shorter. I went to a place near where I live and requested for a pixie cut, just like what I asked for my last hair cut. It’s interesting how every stylist has their own version of a pixie cut! I don’t think I’ve ever had my hair cut above my ears before and I can’t help laughing at how short it is. But in a way, it’s nice to have a change.
