Guest over

An old friend flew in and we’re having dinner at our place.

We’ll be using the dinner plates that Niina drew for our wedding present. I’m starting to think that she’s like superwoman. She can sew + draw + make just about anything. It scares me a little.

Crease time

June 12th, 2010

Yaay this beauty creases papers and booklets beautifully!

paper_scorer5

In the past, I’ve either had to borrow the scoring machine from my printer or use a bone folder to crease my cards, which is great for small jobs but it’s not very convenient when you need to score about 100 over cards in a hurry.

paper_scorer4

For my birthday gift, my husband asked if I wanted a heavy duty scorer or a new Wacom tablet. I opted for the paper scorer (he can get me the tablet for Christmas hehe!)

paper_scorer2

This heavy duty scorer can score documents as large as A2. All you need to do is slide the paper under the creaser and pull the lever down to imprint a crease mark on the paper. Perfecto!

bone_folder

Bye bye bone folder. You’ve been good to me but I think I found a new best friend.

My gosh…

My husband’s birthday gift to me arrived this morning by truck.

And…this heavy duty paper scorer is HUGE! I can’t lift it off my kitchen floor and I’m almost too afraid to open it!

I will post some pictures soon, when I get the machine to work:)

Another year older

June 8th, 2010

I turned 29 on Sunday. Nobody would listen to me when I said I didn’t want to do anything at all!
birthday1

We had a trio birthday lunch with my brother in-law Kris and his partner, Jodie. Niina baked us a birthday sponge cake, topped with chocolate whipped cream and fresh strawberries. It tasted divine.

My parents in-law gave me the most awesome present. They bought me two vegetable planters with some potted vegetables to plant my own veggie garden! I was so excited when I opened my present, I laughed and screamed at the same time.

vegetablekit5

I have already planted all my greens (I couldn’t wait).

I hope your weekend was as good as mine?

Deep fried stuffed mushroom

June 5th, 2010

I made this easy appetizer the other night.

stuffed_mushroom_mince2

Button mushrooms
Sausages
Bread crumbs (seasoned with salt and pepper)
Egg

- Remove the stems from the mushroom caps and remove sausage skin.
- Stuff sausage mince into the mushroom hole.
- Dip stuffed mushroom in egg mixture
- Then dip the mushrooms in seasoned breadcrumbs
- Deep fry until golden brown and till the meat is thoroughly cooked inside

stuffed_mushroom_mince1

Make sure that your oil is not too hot otherwise it will burn the breadcrumbs quickly and you’ll end up with raw sausage mince. You may want to test one mushroom first before frying the rest. Enjoy!

Orange and blue wedding photos

June 3rd, 2010

It’s been 6 months since we got hitched, and up till today I still get emails from those who’ve stumbled upon my blog asking me about my wedding shoes and a list of vendors. So I will compile my vendor list along with this post!

Here are my favourites from our photographer, Jen Regan from Anna Rose Photography.

orange_blue_wedding1

For our summer wedding, we gave away orange paper fans from ebay, to cool our guests down.

orange_blue_wedding4

My bouquet was an arrangement of orange mokara, orange calla lilies, hypericum berries, orange roses and James story orchids. Made by Karma Floral Design. I wanted something petite and beachy! My girls are just holding a few stalks of James Story orchids.

My dress is a simple white dress from Cue, paired with a white belt and orange ballet flats from Nine West. The headpiece is a birdcage veil by Bridal Affair. I got all this from wandering around in the city. I stayed away from Bridal shops because they were too expensive for my budget!

orange_blue_wedding5

We had our wedding at the Kidogo Arthouse Gallery, it’s a lovely rustic limestone building perched right on the cliff. It overlooks the ocean and it’s nicely hidden away to give us a little privacy. We started off with a tea ceremony inside the art gallery and after serving tea to our parents, we moved out to the cliff to say our vows.

orange_blue_wedding3

We gave away bubble bottles to our guests to blow. Inexpensive..and fun. The kids loved them the most. We wrapped up the bottles individually with our names in blue paper.

orange_blue_wedding7

For our decorations, we got orange and blue paper lanterns from ebay. We sewed the table runners ourselves, arranged some orange orchids in ikea vases and added blue and orange paper napkins. I’ll let you in on a secret, the cutlery are actually plastic chrome cutlery! Even the wine glass is plastic! I’d rather put money towards our first home then splurging on china dishes!

I think it’s possible to hold a handmade wedding, that doesn’t cost a bomb. We kept ours really simple and minimal. I chose not to use any videographer, chair covers, flower petals or satin ribbons…in fact we didn’t even have a wedding cake! We also opted to have a buffet lunch instead of a sit down dinner meal, which really helped with the costs. Our Surf and turf buffet was prepared by All Suburbs Catering.

Well that’s pretty much our DIY wedding! I don’t normally post wedding related articles so I hope you enjoyed looking at all the photos! If you need any more info just email me or leave a comment here.

A word of advice to all the brides out there planning their wedding, just remain steadfast and calm about your budget! Pick a charming location that doesn’t require much decoration and add in a few personal and unique touches. Have fun!

For more pretty pictures, you can check out some of these blogs that featured my wedding too:) Ruffled.

Cute snacks

May 28th, 2010

My husband spoiled me with my favourite snack, Yan Yan. When I was little, my parents used to buy me this Japanese snack all the time!

yanyan

I love dipping the biscuit sticks in the icing. Each stick has cute messages on it.

My friend Allana also sent me some yummy things with bears! I was very touched by her package because I love bear related things and I like themed packages. I got some bear cookies and a cute panda girl badge..amongst all the other lovely bear gifts she sent me.

beary

I owe a lot of people letters and packages, so this week I am going to start writing and sending them off. If you’ve been waiting for a letter from me, I hope you’ll find yours soon in your mail box:)
